The Real Reason Montel Williams Was Hospitalized

Talk show legend Montel Williams was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday (May 30) night. News didn't break about this until Thursday (May 31) and now, more details about the incident are being revealed.

TMZ previously reported that Williams wasn't feeling too well after he did some dumbbell squats at a NYC gym. "We're told he didn't feel right and went back up to his room. While there, he realized the situation was serious and he needed medical attention so he called for help," the news outlet reports. Luckily, emergency responders got to Williams in less than five minutes and got him quickly to the hospital.

The entertainment legend's spokesperson, Jonathan Franks, has since issued a statement explaining his recent hospitalization. According to him, Williams simply "over did it" at the gym and will be soon released from medical care. “Anyone who knows Montel knows that he is an exercise enthusiast,” Franks tweeted. “Yesterday, he overdid it and has been admitted to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. He is doing well and anticipates being discharged soon.”

He continued: “In the coming days, as he always has, Montel will tell his story himself. Until then, we respectfully ask that his family’s privacy be respected. The Williams family will forever be grateful for the quick response from NYFD and the excellent care he has received.” Take a look at Franks tweet below. The message was posted on the celeb's account, too.

In 1999, Williams was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis after he began experiencing vision issues in 1980, PEOPLE reports. According to the National Library of Medicine, multiple sclerosis is defined as, "A disorder of the central nervous system marked by weakness, numbness, a loss of muscle coordination, and problems with vision, speech, and bladder control. Multiple sclerosis is thought to be an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system destroys myelin."

The site continues that the disorder "can range from relatively benign to somewhat disabling to devastating, as communication between the brain and other parts of the body is disrupted."

We're not sure if his hospitalization is linked to his condition. But, either way, we're glad Williams is on track to a quick recovery.
