Robert De Niro Splits From Wife Grace Hightower After Over 20 Years

Robert De Niro has split from his wife, Grace Hightower, after more than two decades of marriage, PEOPLE reported on Tuesday night (November 20).

As per the celebrity gossip magazine, the pair has been separated and living apart. "Sometimes things don't work out the way you hope or want them to," an insider said of their fallout. The two married in 1997 after dating for a decade but encountered some road bumps earlier in their relationship when De Niro filed for divorce in 1999. The two went head-to-head in a custody dispute over their son Elliot, but the war eventually fizzled out and the divorce was never finalized. In addition to 20-year-old Elliot, the pair share 6-year-old daughter Helen Grace.

Sources close to Page Six noticed that the couple has not been together at many events, with De Niro appearing solo in recent months. In particular, the Hollywood heavyweight attended a MoMA film benefit on Monday night to honor Martin Scorsese, along with Leo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Harvey Keitel. "De Niro and Grace are breaking up. He's been at a few things since the very end of the summer without her — and rumor has it they are done," their insider previously shared.

Back in November 2004, the two showcased their longtime romance for their vow renewal in front of an audience of A-list friends, including Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Ben Stiller, Tom Brokaw and others.
