Selena Gomez Turns Dates Into Frogs In Bewitching Video For 'Boyfriend'

Selena Gomez's unveiling of three new tracks off the deluxe version of her latest album, Rare, also arrived with a bewitching music video for "Boyfriend."

On Friday (April 10), the Matty Peacock-directed clip dropped and it sees the chart-topper, 27, put her spin on an age-old tale about finding Prince Charming. Following a similar trajectory as the track's lyrics, Gomez is on the hunt for love, but she's also able to weed out the romantic busts and turn her dates into frogs using a magic potion. "I want a boyfriend/ But I just keep hitting dead ends/ Try to take a shortcut, but I get cut again and again (Yeah)// I want a boyfriend (Uh-huh)," she sings on the hook of The Roommates-produced track. In addition to "Boyfriend," Gomez also treated fans to previously unreleased songs "Souvenir" and "She" as part of the LP's re-release.

Gomez previously admitted that the song was written alongside pop songwriting duo Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter. "It happened literally from a text message," Michaels recently revealed of the track.

"I can say this message specifically, because again, when I want to do more, it is sometimes like, 'You know what? Today I just don't know what I'm actually feeling, so maybe it's not going to be anything,'" Gomez explained. "But I text[ed] her, I said, 'Well, it's like I feel like I've covered everything on the album. I was like, I don't know. Life's good. I want a boyfriend. That's about it.' And she's like, 'LOL, whatever. And I come in the studio and that's literally the title.'"
