Selena Gomez is sharing the secret to being a good actress.

While attending Elle's Women in Hollywood event in Los Angeles on Tuesday (November 19), the Wizards of Waverly Place alum spoke to People about the best piece of advice she has received from "an actress that I really respect" that has helped better her acting.

"I know this sounds silly, but someone once said, 'Don't take yourself too seriously,'" she said. "Because it allows you to have room and empathy and compassion, and you can go into a film or a character and be able to really appreciate that."

She continued, "I know it sounds weird, but it actually does work when you get to enjoy it and not be in your head so much."

While the Rare Beauty founder didn't reveal which leading lady shared the words of wisdom, Gomez recently gushed about working with Meryl Streep on the set of Only Murders in the Building and how her professionalism inspired her to show the same level of support for her fellow actors and have the same love for acting decades into her own career.

"It was so classy and showed that she really still loved the craft and that she wanted to be there for us too," she said, adding, "I'll never forget her being barefoot, singing on set, just loving what she's doing. I want that spirit, I want to always love what I do and be there for people."
