Dr. Kimberly Miller - Superintendent of Ohio County Schools

Ohio County Schools Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Miller has built an impeccable resume in her two-decade career in education.

Miller is entering her sixth year as the school system's superintendent. Her greatest professional accomplishment was achieved in 2018 when voters approved the $42 million bond initiative she directed, and that initiative will benefit the school system and its students for decades. Miller is now leading the implementation of the projects that will result in improved safety and security, technology and innovative spaces, infrastructure upgrades and energy efficiency throughout Ohio County Schools. Members of the West Virginia School Building Authority were so impressed with Miller’s bond initiative proposal that they agreed to provide an additional $27 million to the project this year.

“Ohio County residents love their children, and they care about education,” Miller said. “It is so rewarding to know that our parents and community members support our schools and our projects. I will always be grateful for that.”

Miller took the reigns as the superintendent of Ohio County Schools on July 1, 2016. In her career, she’s served as a classroom teacher, central office administrator, curriculum coordinator, director of student services and principal before being named as the school system’s top administrator. Her passion is ensuring student learning in a positive climate, and she is focused on placing students at the center of her work.

She served from 2012-2016 as the principal of Woodsdale Elementary School, and under her leadership the school was named by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Miller also served for 10 years as Ohio County Schools student services/curriculum director. She said her proudest achievement in that capacity was directing the implementation of the school system’s Universal Pre-K program, which now has 19 sites throughout the county.

Miller has also earned a Milken Educator Award, which recognizes early-to-mid career education professionals for their already impressive achievements and, more significantly, for the promise of what they will accomplish in the future. Miller said she is proud of what she has accomplished in Ohio County Schools, and that it is an honor to serve as the superintendent of the school system.

“This phase of my career has been so exciting and rewarding,” she said. “I believe we have an excellent leadership team, and we are working to strengthen parent, teacher and community relationships. Together, we continue to make a difference in the lives of all our students.”

Miller attended West Virginia University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1992, her master’s degree in elementary education in 1997 and her doctorate in education in 2011. In 2012, she was inducted into the West Virginia University Alumni Cheerleading Hall of Fame. She is a graduate of Brooke High School, and she was inducted into the Brooke High School Hall of Fame in 2007.

Dr. Miller lives in Wheeling with her husband, David, who is a former member of Wheeling City Council member. They have three daughters. Kayley is a graduate of Stanford University. Kamryn is 2021 graduate of Wheeling Park High School where she was a member of the school’s state-championship cheerleading team, and her youngest daughter, Karringtyn, attends Steenrod Elementary School.
